1. 12-Month Wellness Tracker

Do a quick head-to-tail check each month. Recurring monthly records make it easy to spot slow changes typical of aging horses.

2. What to Look For

Coat & shedding: A long, curly, or slow-shedding coat is a classic sign of PPID (Cushing's). Flag it for your vet.
Teeth / quidding: Dropping balled-up feed, head-tilting, or weight loss suggests dental problems.
Eyes: Cloudiness, discharge, or squinting needs prompt attention.
Hooves: Check for heat, digital pulse, or rings that may signal laminitis.
Movement: Stiffness when starting out, reluctance to turn, or lying down more can indicate arthritis.
Manure & appetite: Changes in volume, consistency, or interest in feed are early warning signs.

3. Annual Summary & Vet Follow-ups

Summarize trends across the year and list items to raise at the next senior wellness exam.

This monthly check helps you catch age-related changes early but does not replace veterinary exams. Senior horses benefit from at least one to two veterinary wellness visits per year. Report new or worsening signs to your vet.
